So, I thought I’d take this moment to put this gas ‘crisis’ thing (*cough*) in perspective.
NO, I am NOT a supporter of insanely high gas prices. (And don’t even get me started on the reasons behind the insanity) I drive too. But think about what we pay for lots of ‘non-essentials’ (which we conveniently label ‘essentials’), and then also some frivilousness which some of us just can’t live without:
**Keep this in mind: 1 Gallon = 128 oz.
- 16oz bottle of water or soda — easily $1 to $2
- Bag ‘O Chips — $3 to $4
- Shampoo — mine anyway, about $5 for 12 oz.
- Lotion — about $5 for 12 oz.
- Cigarettes — freaking $6 or something?
- A drink at a bar after work — $3-$8 or more, ONE drink
- 6-pack of beer, 72 oz – $5 - $9
- Bottle of wine, 24 oz. — avg. $8
- Starbucks — Need I even say?
- Greasy-burger lunch @ drivethrough — $6 or more
Anyway, get the picture? Sorta puts things in perspective. Just might make ya feel a little better at your next fill-up.
